bay area behenji

It’s that time of the year of the again.

Vacation in the western world. So its n-number of NRI’s visiting their folks at home. The rounds of puja’s,weddings, and upanayanas happening. Its pay time for the purohits and temple.

Mothers and mothers-in-law meet and talk of their children in Bay area. Of their children friends and colleagues Koreans and Vietnamese. Listening to them I wonder if these birds have west or east! Who cares the world is round. Instead of butchery, signet and pori (a ritual done during the 7th month of   pregnancy at the mother’s house) and seemantham (pregnancy ritual at the husband’s place) discussions of “bridal showers” and ‘baby showers’ at san José, bay area whatever.

Even more interesting are the bay area behenji’s and bahuranis, they trot to “India” with their cereals and strawberry flavouring in stock and toilet rolls in stock. After all they are entering the alien territory of third world where there are no toilets.

Our press seem to have done such an excellent job that even Aqua guard water has to be boiled before they can drink it.

I really salute and admire my uncle Raja’s wife Ellen who used to come to India forty years ago, with her daughter not once did she carry any of these stuff. Jet lag was accepted and coped up without much ado. Toilets were only Indian and at our village then it was open air. Her kids seemed to have done fine.
